Latest D-FW residential foreclosure postings set record
Dallas-Fort Worth residential foreclosure postings set a new record in the third quarter of 2009 – leaping 32 percent over last year’s same-quarter numbers.
According to the latest data released by Addison-based Foreclosure Listing Service, FLS, the four counties comprising the Dallas-Fort Worth area recorded 15,880 homes slated for foreclosure at auctions held or to be held during the third quarter of 2009. Those numbers compare with 12,050 homes that were set for foreclosure for the same period in 2008.
“For the past two quarters, D-FW home postings have surged to new highs for this foreclosure cycle by topping the 15,000 mark,” said FLS President George Roddy.
Foreclosures in 2009 have been on a roller coaster thanks to a moratorium placed on all Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae homes in the beginning of the year, which caused a rush of foreclosures filed during the second quarter of the year. That number of foreclosure postings has gradually increased, resulting in this yearÂ’s third quarter serving as the seventh consecutive quarter Dallas-Fort Worth postings have topped 12,000, according to FLS findings.
FLS already has tabulated data for the Sept. 1 foreclosure auction as the deadline to file for the auction has passed.
As of the third quarter, new quarterly record highs were set for this foreclosure cycle in three of the four Dallas-Fort Worth counties, including Tarrant, Collin and Denton counties. To date, nearly 45,000 homes in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex have been posted for foreclosure in 2009.
In Tarrant County, a new record was set in the third quarter of 2009 with 5,252 foreclosure postings – the second quarter in a row the county has seen postings top 5,000. A new record was also set for the county in year-to-date postings, which are currently at 14,635 homes posted for foreclosure in the county since the start of 2009.
“Although the Dallas-Fort Worth area has not been hit as hard as many of the metros around the nation, D-FW residential foreclosure posting activity has quadrupled since the start of this new century nine years ago,” Roddy said. “By this time in 2000, just 9,976 homes in the Metroplex had been posted for foreclosure compared to the almost 45,000 so far this year.”
