Chesapeake Energy Corp. reported that gross operated daily production in the Barnett Shale recently exceeded 1 billion cubic feet of natural gas, which solidifies its status as the No. 2 producer in the area and the most active driller in Tarrant and Johnson counties.

The Oklahoma-based company’s North Texas work over the past 5 years has taken it nationwide into each of the other Big 4 plays – the Haynesville in Louisiana and East Texas, Fayetteville in Arkansas and Marcellus, centered in southwest Pennsylvania but running through parts of New York and West Virginia.

In an operations update, the company reported that it completed two wells flowing initially at peak rates of 16.4 million cubic feet per day and 10 MMcf per day in Tarrant and Johnson counties, respectively.

Elsewhere, wells are performing similarly; two Haynesville wells are flowing at peak rates of 20.2 MMcf per day and 18.6 MMcf per day; two Fayetteville wells are flowing at peak rates of 8 MMcf per day and 6.2 MMcf per day; and in the Marcellus Shale, two wells are flowing at peak rates of 10.1 MMcf per day and 8.9 MMcf per day, according to the Oct. 22 statement.

“We are pleased to announce that Chesapeake has set company records and reached significant production milestones in all four of our Big 4 shale plays,” CEO Aubrey K. McClendon said in the statement. “We are very proud of the remarkable accomplishments that our shale teams have delivered. We look forward to continued strong results from these world-class fields for years to come.”
