GameStop Corp., based in Grapevine, is gearing up for the rest of the year and announced Oct. 27 it plans to hire about 15,000 seasonal part-time employees between now and Dec. 24 to fill open positions at its 4,300 U.S. stores.

The numbers are consistent with seasonal hiring efforts in past years, according to a release, and will increase the company’s total headcount by about 46 percent and in-store game advisor headcount by 78 percent.

“The end of the year historically represents a large part of our company’s annual sales, and 2009 is not expected to be any different,” said Marissa Andrada, the company’s senior vice president of human resources.

The release of game titles later in the year as well as recent price reductions in some gaming systems are expect to increase store traffic, Andrada said.

Interested applicants can pick up applications at neighborhood stores, and while training is provided, applicants should be knowledgeable about video games and gaming equipment.
