Veterans and military honored during November events

Reata Restaurant in Fort Worth and Alpine has announced its first partnership with the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization that supports severely injured service men and women.

Beginning Nov. 12 – the day after Veteran’s Day – until Nov. 19, Reata’s two locations will offer a $35 fixed-price three-course menu, with $7 of each meal donated to the Wounded Warrior Project. Wine pairings are available for each course for an additional $20 per person, per meal.

“I am continuously humbled by the courageous acts of our men and women in the military,” said Al Micallef, owner of Reata Restaurants. “We encourage both Fort Worth and Alpine to come out and support our wounded veterans and their families during this week-long promotion.”

Reservations are strongly encouraged. Call 817-336-1009 in Fort Worth or go to www.reata.net (Fort Worth only) and designate the Wounded Warrior Dinner.

The Texas Brahmas are saluting the Armed Forces through its corporate donation program “Seats for Soldiers, which will run Nov. 25-29.

Specific sections at the NYTEX Sports Centre – the hockey team’s headquarters in North Richland Hills – are designated as the Seats for Soldiers for each Brahmas home game. The team is asking local companies and businesses to donate tax-deductible game tickets. In return, the Brahmas offer the donating partners various marketing and entertainment opportunities in association with the team. The seats are provided to nonprofit organizations that are chosen by the sponsoring companies. Each charity will receive 250 tickets to a Texas Brahmas home game, one player appearance of choice and 75 skating passes at the NYTEX center.

Beneficiaries include branches of the military, the Wounded Warrior Project, Operation Comfort, The Dallas Foundation, Operation Vacation and Toys For Tots.

Kirk to keynote annual UNCF event

Texas U.S. Trade Representative Ambassador Ronald Kirk will be the keynote speaker at the United Negro College Fund’s Annual North Texas Luncheon, Nov. 20 at the Grand Hyatt DFW at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.

Proceeds from the luncheon will benefit students and help provide resources to the five UNCF member institutions located in Texas.

“Thousands of UNCF students have seen family contributions reduced or eliminated due to job loss and pay cuts,” said Diane Stephenson, UNCF’s area development director. “The credit crunch has squeezed private student loans off the market. Many of these students won’t be able to graduate without additional financial aid…we must do what we can to assist students who have trouble meeting tuition costs.”
