Calendar: Chamber Music Society presents Nakamatsu, Asin

Pianist Jon Nakamatsu and flutist Nadine Asin will perform at the Chamber Music Society of Fort Worth’s third concert of the season on Dec. 5 in the auditorium of the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth at 2 p.m.

Nakamatsu enjoys a career as concert soloist, chamber musician, recording artist and solo recitalist throughout the United States and the world.

Flutist Nadine Asin has performed at the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the New York Philharmonic and the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.  She is currently with the Aspen Music Festival as performer and faculty member.

Violinist and artistic director, Robert Davidovici, will be joined on this concert by Curt Thompson, violin, Susan Dubois, viola, Karen Basrak, cello and Gloria Lin, piano.

Works from Bach, Martinu, Rachmaninov and Dohnanyi will be performed on the program.

Art gallery opens at TCC's Trinity River Campus

East Fork Gallery at Tarrant County College Trinity River is opening for its premiere exhibition Nov. 21 featuring works by artist Ron A. Cheek and students of The Texas Academy of Figurative Art.

The exhibit, "Ron A. Cheek and the Texas Academy of Figurative Art: Paintings & Drawings," will run through Jan. 30 and feature works by notable figurative artist Ron A. Cheek and students of The Texas Academy of Figurative Art, founded by Cheek in 2007 to offer an alternative art education. Cheek, whose work is influenced by masters of the European Renaissance, is often referred to as a "master of the human figure." He currently resides in Fort Worth and has traveled and exhibited throughout the United States and Europe.

Future exhibits will include work by local, regional and national artists, as well as faculty and students. All gallery events will be free and open to the public.The gallery is located on Level 1 of the East Fork Building at Trinity River Campus. Nutcracker set to open for holiday season

Texas Ballet Theater will present The Nutcracker beginning Dec. 11 at Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth.

The production will open Nov. 27 in Dallas at the AT&T Performing Arts Center Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House. The company will also present, for one night only, The Nutty Nutcracker, an adult parody of the classic ballet Dec. 20 at Bass Performance Hall.

“We are very excited to debut at the magnificent new Winspear Opera House in Dallas with The Nutcracker,” said Ben Stevenson, artistic director for Texas Ballet Theater.  “Our production features a cast of over 150 artists with lavish sets, opulent costumes and wonderful performances by our talented company.  This production is perfect for the new crown jewel of the performing arts in Dallas.”
