Ernst & Young named Craig Stone office managing partner for the firmÂ’s Fort Worth Office. Stone, an assurance and advisory services partner with the firm, assumed this leadership position after former OMP Lee Prillaman transferred to the firmÂ’s national Business Risk Services Practice.

Contractors

Westwood Contractors, a Fort Worth-based national contractor specializing in retail stores and hospitality venues, promoted Mike McBride to president and chief operating officer.

 

Corporations

Grapevine-based GameStop Corp, a video game and entertainment software retailer, announced the promotion of Dan DeMatteo to vice chairman and COO, Bill Chinn to senior vice president of stores, Marc Summey to senior vice president of real estate and development, and Joe DePinto was named president. In addition, Jack Beuttell joined the company as senior vice president of marketing and merchandising. 

 

Education

In the Keller Independent School District, the Fossil Ridge High Sun Dancers were named Best in Class and earned Sweepstakes for their performances during the Heart of Texas American Dance Drill Team Contest in Temple. In addition, dancers Kristan Bruner and Tara Lance won Best in Class for duet; Lindsey Parker placed first in solo dance; and Kristan Bruner placed third runner-up in solo dance. Elsewhere in the district, elementary schools Heritage and Whitley Road tied for first place for the grand championship in the district UIL Elementary Academic Competition.

 

Kathryn Cardarelli was named an assistant professor of epidemiology at the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth in the School of Public Health. CardarelliÂ’s research interests include the influence of socioeconomic position on health and the integration of health planning with community and economic development.

 

Peter Koulen was promoted from assistant professor to associate professor with tenure in the department of pharmacology and neuroscience at the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth. Koulen also serves as the associate director of the North Texas Eye Research Institute.

 

Energy

Linda Ball of S & J Electric completed the Cost Awareness and Production course through the Construction Education Foundation. Ball will transfer to S & JÂ’s Dallas-Fort Worth International AirportÂ’s office where she will be a field engineer.

 

Government

The Tarrant County Juvenile Services Board appointed Randy Turner to director of the countyÂ’s juvenile services department. Turner has been the assistant director since January 2004 under Carey Cockerell, who left to direct the stateÂ’s Child Protective Services department in January 2005.

 

Health care

The University of North Texas Health Science Center hired Jason Young as financial aid counselor. He will work with the incoming osteopathic medical student class of 2009 on financial aid matters and run the health science centerÂ’s work-study program.

 

Tenet Healthcare Corporation announced that W. Randolph Smith, a

hospital industry executive, will retire from the company on March 31.

 

Honored

During the annual awards celebration and dinner in early March, the following individuals were recognized as 2005 Fort Worth Outstanding Women of Fort Worth: Guadalupe Arriola, civic volunteer; Regina Blair, neighborhood activist; Gay McWhorter, civic volunteer; Evelyn Collins, educator; Cynthia Fisher Miller, director of Workforce Development and Education for the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce; Lucille H. Helton, founder and executive director of The Learning Center of North Texas; Katie Diane Robinson, volunteer and student body president at Southwest High School; Amanda Zavala, volunteer and student at North Side High School.

 

For the second consecutive year, the Embassy Suites Hotel Outdoor World in Grapevine received a four-diamond rating from the American Automobile Association (AAA).

 

Star Uniform Company was recognized for environmental compliance by the Fort Worth Water department. The company was given the Pretreatment Associate Award and the Pollution Prevention Award during the sixth annual Pretreatment Awards Banquet.

 

The Texas Transit Association (TTA) has honored Fort Worth Transportation Authority (The T) president and executive director Dick Ruddell with the 2005 Outstanding Public Transportation Manager award. This award is given annually to a Texas public transportation manager who has made outstanding contributions to the industry. Ruddell was recognized for major accomplishments in his first two years with The T, including a financial turnaround, ridership growth, launch of a strategic planning effort and establishment of new partnerships, particularly in the arena of the Metroplex-wide Regional Rail Initiative.

 

Michael W. Wellbaum,  a project manager for the Fort Worth office of Teague Nall and Perkins, Inc., has been named the 2005 recipient of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers’ Fort Worth Chapter Richard Van Trump Award. The award is give to recognize a member of the chapter for exemplary service during the previous year and to honor the memory and achievements of the late Richard Van Trump, P. E.

HomeVestors of America Inc. has hired Rives Carlberg to handle creative development for the companyÂ’s advertising campaign in markets across the United States. Carlberg will produce two national television spots as well as radio and outdoor advertising.
