Third time around for charming local bar

The quirky sentences spelled out on the sign for Jimmy MooreÂ’s under-construction bar near Montgomery Plaza are a business strategy to keep Fort Worth watching.

The signs “are just my commentary, they’re to keep people paying attention to us,” Moore said. “I try to stay away from religion and politics, though.”

This is MooreÂ’s third opening for the 7th Haven bar he co-owns with Stacey Prince on Seventh Street. Both of the previous locations, the first of which was just east of Montgomery Plaza, and the second, on Crockett Street, have closed when developers bought the land the bars sat on. The Crockett Street location closed about six months ago, he said.

MooreÂ’s third opening of 7th Haven is aimed for June, but that could change depending in construction.

The third 7th Haven will hold about 100 people in the building and about 50 people on the barÂ’s roof deck, which is a feature neither of the first two locations had, and Moore hopes it will attract new customers, along with some of the barÂ’s other draws such as a long happy hour and shot

specials.

The bar will also host live bands eventually, though no one has been signed or scheduled yet, he said.

Moore will not add a cover charge when bands play at the bar, he said.

Flat screen televisions will line the barÂ’s walls so customers can keep up with sports. Moore is also bringing in a digital juke box.

Most bars sell the same beer and liquor as every other bar, and what sets one apart from the rest is the staff and service, Moore said.

Prince has a knack for remembering names and drink orders, and thatÂ’s something both she and Moore encourage their employees to work on while theyÂ’re serving customers.

Regulars are often the bread and butter for bars, Moore said, and providing good service attracts new customers who may become regulars if they click with the barÂ’s atmosphere.

“The 7th Haven is the champagne of dive bars,” said regular Chip Searcy. Â“If you want to hang out in pretentious digs, then the Haven is probably not for you. The Haven has great ambiance and is uniquely eclectic in personality. Awesome staff, incredible jukebox and a lot of decent regulars.”

Moore and Prince signed a six-year lease for the new location, and one day may use their entrepreneurial experience to open up a bar and grill somewhere else in Fort Worth, Moore said. The current building is too small for a kitchen.
