United Title closes its Texas operations

United Title of Texas, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mercury Companies Inc., discontinued its Texas operations on July 29, according to a spokesperson in the companyÂ’s corporate office in Austin.

The parent company closed all other nationwide locations outside its home base of Colorado. All of the Texas employees were laid off in the shut down.

The title insurance firm had about 200 employees and 27 offices in Texas, including branches in North Richland Hills, Southlake, Hurst and Bedford.

According to the companyÂ’s Web site, the family-owned firm began as United Title Co. in 1946 and had grown to a network of almost 600 branches and 6,200 employees.
