Dallas-Fort Worth leads the nation in jobs

The Dallas-Fort Worth area had the strongest job market among the nationÂ’s 12 largest metropolitan areas during the 12 months ending in July, the U.S. Department of Labor announced in a new report August 27.

Nonfarm employment in the Dallas-Fort Worth area grew 2.3 percent in the period, according to the report. HoustonÂ’s employment growth rate was close, with 2.2 percent.

The Metroplex area added 68,000 jobs during the 12-month period, followed by Houston with 57,100 jobs and Seattle with 38,900 jobs.

Overall U.S. employment fell 0.1 percent, with 174,000 jobs eliminated. Five of the 12 largest metro areas suffered job losses during the period. Los Angeles was the hardest hit, where 45,000 jobs were lost.
