Travelocity announces booking fee rollback

Online travel vendor Travelocity announced on March 17 that it will eliminate its booking fees for all domestic and international flights sold through May 31, matching a recent move by rival Expedia.

Travelocity, a unit of Sabre Holdings Corp. in Southlake, along with competitors Expedia Inc. and Orbitz Worldwide Inc. are responding to the economy, which continues to negatively impact travelers and the aviation industry.

“In this current economic environment, consumers will continue to watch how every one of their hard earned dollars is spent,” said Tracey Weber, president, Travelocity North America, in a press release. “The upside for consumers is that there are some incredible deals available right now.”

As part of its no booking fee promotion, Travelocity also launched its PriceGuardian guarantee on vacation packages – flight plus hotel vacations - booked between now and the end of May. The company promises to refund a price difference, from $10 to $500, if a different Travelocity customer buys the same package for a cheaper price at a later date.

The promotion on vacation packages is the first time this kind of service has been offered by an online travel company.
