Classes will be held at Tarrant County College, 300 Trinity Campus Circle (Power Room TR4012, 4th floor, Fort Worth, TX 76102—1964.

Students are asked to do a pre—course reading assignment and to bring their own copy of the PMBOK Guide Fourth Edition to class.  All other materials are provided.

Registrations may be canceled by February 28, 2010 with a full refund.  No refunds will be processed after February 28, 2010.

The class is capped at 25.  Your seat in the class will not be confirmed until full payment is received.  Paying at the door does not confirm your registration.

The Chapter will not process refunds after the first workshop unless there are extenuating circumstances.  Cancellations after the first workshop will be pro—rated based on the number of workshops attended.

Workshop Information:

03/06/10     Workshops 1 & 2      8:30am – 4:30pm
Workshop 1 — Project Management Fundamentals — This portion of the course will be devoted to learning project management basics. Definitions, terms and foundation information will be discussed. The PMBOK Guide and its structure will be discussed. We will also discuss the basics of applying for PMP certification in this workshop.

Workshop 2 — Initiating the Project — Project initiation processes will be discussed in this workshop. The processes associated with Initiating, “Develop Project Charter” and “Identify Stakeholders” will be reviewed. Reading assignments and lessons quizzes will be completed and reviewed. The TSI model for PMP Exam Prep is to discuss the processes in process group order. Process discussion is performed in the approximate order (defined by Inputs, Tools and Techniques and Outputs) that processes are performed on a typical project. In every workshop we will discuss PMI processes as defined in the PMBOK Guide Fourth Edition individually. Each process discussed will focus on Inputs, Tools and Techniques and Outputs as well as process documents and real—world application.

03/13/10     Workshops 3 & 4      8:30am – 4:30pm
Workshop 3 — Defining Project Scope — As part of the beginning of planning processes; the processes used to define project scope will be discussed. Collecting requirements, defining the scope, and creating a work breakdown structure will be reviewed. Reading assignments in the PMBOK Guide and lesson quizzes will be completed and reviewed. In addition to planning scope, we will also cover a key process, planning communications, in this section.

Workshop 4 — Defining the Project Schedule — As part of planning the project, this workshop will discuss the processes specific to planning the schedule: defining activities, sequencing activities, estimating activity resources, estimating activity durations and developing schedules will be part of this workshop. Key elements such as identifying the critical path, using what—if scenarios and other tools will be reviewed.

03/20/10     Workshops 5 & 6      8:30am – 4:30pm
Workshop 5 — Defining the Project Budget — Continuing with project planning processes, the Cost Management and Quality Management planning processes will be reviewed and discussed in this section. This workshop will include reading assignments in the PMBOK Guide and lesson quizzes and reviews. Key examples of budget preparation will be reviewed. As part of this workshop, the process of Plan Human Resources will be reviewed.

Workshop 6 — Project Risk Planning — The five Risk Management processes that are devoted to planning risk for the project will be reviewed and discussed in this workshop. Key elements of risk planning will be discussed in detail.

03/27/10     Workshops 7 & 8     8:30am – 4:30pm
Workshop 7 — Managing Project Work — This workshop covers the eight executing processes defined in the PMBOK Guide Fourth Edition. The workshop focuses on work execution and the management of the project team and stakeholders. Key elements of executing project work will be reviewed and discussed in detail.

Workshop 8 — Controlling the Project — This workshop will focus on specific control processes used to monitor and control the project and used to manage change control. Key elements of controlling a projects success will be reviewed and discussed in detail as part of this workshop.

04/03/10     Workshops 9 & 10     8:30am – 4:30pm
Workshop 9 — Using Earned Value for Performance Measurement and Reporting — As a subset of project control, we will discuss the use of earned value to measure a typical project. Earned Value formulas, as define in the PMBOK Guide Fourth Edition will be used, discussed and tested with multiple quiz questions and exercises. Formulas from Control Schedule and Control Costs will be used.

Workshop 10 — Closing the Project — Project Closing processes will be reviewed and discussed. Reading assignments from the PMBOK Guide and Lesson Quizzes will be performed. As part of this section, the PMI Code of Ethics will be discussed as well as new agendas addressing cultural awareness and diversity in project management. Exam tips will be covered at a high level at the end of this workshop.

04/10/10     Workshop 11     8:30am – 4:30pm 
Workshop 11 — PMP Exam Preparation and Tips — This workshop will focus solely on final preparation for the PMP Exam. This day—long workshop will focus on an initial review of processes by process group. This will be followed by a shortened PMP sample exam. After lunch a second comprehensive review focusing on processes by Knowledge Area will be performed. A shortened PMP sample exam will be administered to gauge results. The overall course will end with a comprehensive two page course evaluation.

Instructor Information:
Sharron Frohner, Senior PMP instructor, is an experienced project management trainer and corporate executive with a global focus. She has over 20 years of progressive career experiences with the US Army, GTE and Alcatel. Her most recent experience prior to joining TSI was with Sun Microsystems managing global account crises.

Sharron authored and conducted a workshop/training program for crisis management skill sets for Sun Microsystems, as well as developed and implemented a Program Office Plan for Alcatel.

During the Vietnam crisis Sharron received the Army Commendation Medal (Operation New Life) for aiding in relocation of Vietnamese fleeing communist regime.

Sharron has a BS in Business Management from Letourneau University and is currently working on her Master’s Program for Organizational Management at Dallas Baptist University. As a Non—Commissioned Officer (NCO) at the Academy for the US Army, Sharron was the first US Army female to attend the NCO Academy.

Who: Kathy Whitworth Invitational benefiting Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Fort Worth

What:  The 2010 Kathy Whitworth Invitational, an international junior girls golf championship nationally ranked by Golfweek/Titleist and recognized by the AJGA Polo Golf Rankings, will be held March 14—16 at the Mira Vista Country Club in Fort Worth.  All proceeds benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Fort Worth, a non—profit organization dedicated to changing the odds for more than 12,000 disadvantaged youth in Fort Worth each year.  This year, 72 girls aged 12 to 18, from as close as Fort Worth and as far away as South Korea will compete.  The Kathy Whitworth Invitational was established in 1999.  Kathy Whitworth, an LPGA Player of the Year seven times, has won six majors and has 88 career wins, an all—time record for both men’s and women’s U.S. Tours.  She was inducted into the LPGA’s  Hall of Fame in 1975.

Last year the Fort Worth Chapter of Project Management Institute (PMI) had such a successful event that we were asked by our members to please have another one.  This time at the beautiful Trinity River Campus of Tarrant County College (downtown Fort Worth). 

The current job market is changing with whatever the latest economic forecast brings.  We will be having four speakers representing a wide cross section of staffing management who will share with you their thoughts on how to market yourself in today's environment.  You will learn:

Resume writing skills and formats designed to showcase your experience for potential employers
Interviewing tips:  the questions you will want to ask and those you should be prepared to answer
Networking 102:  Learn the best ways to create and maintain your professional network
Bridging the Gap:  Creative ways to account for gaps in your employment history

Pre—Meeting Mini—Job Fair:  During the 4 to 6 PM timeframe, we invite you to bring your resumes and visit the various vendors and staff management firms.  Those who attended last year were able to present themselves and some even found employment.

WHO:     The Make—A—Wish Foundation of North Texas
   
WHAT:      The Make—A—Wish Foundation of North Texas is hosting its annual Race for Wishes in Irving, Texas. The North Texas Chapter is combining its Southwest and Central regions and encouraging both communities to put one foot forward to grant the wishes of children fighting life—threatening medical conditions. Participants of the 5K run/walk and 1—mile fun run/walk will enjoy a day of exercise, breakfast, friendly competition and the opportunity to raise money for children in their communities.

WHEN:    Saturday, March 27, 2010   
             7:30 a.m. – Registration begins
             8:40 a.m. – Pre Race Ceremonies
             9:00 a.m. – 1—Mile Fun Run/Walk and 5K Run/Walk Begins
     
HOW:    Each team or individual can register and get event information online by visiting www.raceforwishes.kintera.org.  Participants are able to create an individual or team web page that tracks and collects donations and helps raise funds by emailing friends, family or organizations. All donations must be received no later than 8 a.m. the day of the event. Prizes will be awarded to the teams with the most funds raised.
